I have the LKMegaD2s, what do you want to know?+ Can't Post

I had the LK1s but traded them for the LKMegaD2s to try Xenon bulbs. They did work as well.

not yet. on the way [In reply to] Can't Post

We had a little english vs. german problem that held up the order.
They shipped yesterday. I'm a little worried since my tryout trip leaves Feb 27.

No, I planned to adapt my battery ... [In reply to] Can't Post

...although I like the looks of theirs. I also ordered a multi-bulb head to see how they worked at high powers.

thanks for chiming in... when you say they did work as well, what do you mean? do you like them better than the LK1s? are they brighter? do you like the color of the xenon bulbs? are these your primary video lights? sorry for so many questions :)

the triple bulb head? I thought of that+ [In reply to] Can't Post

but didn't want to deal with the extra big batteries. Their tank batteries are nice and are very compact. However, being so compact makes them limited in power. I modified a 128 Pro to fit 9.6A 14 v batteries.

I think their tank batteries look great and would probably have bought them if I knew at the time.
I do like your battery size. Mine are a little smaller and 25V for halogens but really pretty similar.
The Hartenberger cannisters are definitely sexier than mine.

The Xenon arcs at Hartenberger have 1 temp+ [In reply to] Can't Post

They use the D2 headlight arc technology at 35W, about 4500°K. Hartenberger does not recommend the D2s for sea water. I made the mistake of taking advantage of a cheap $50 deal and switched from the LK1 to the LKMegaD2s. The color reproduction of the Xenons are barely adequate on the lower CCTs like reds etc but it was decent at night dives.
The LK1 is a nice head with approx 90° flood pattern. If you are thinking of using larger wattage, don't buy the Hartenberger batteries.
I primarily use 2 custom HID 24W lights when I travel to remote areas where baggage is limited. I've yet to have a failure with them with over 200 dives. With video reflectors, 2 batteries , 2 heads, ULCS arms, they come in under 9lbs. Which to me is a boon. The color is decidedly whiter blue compared to halogen, but I prefer that to the yellow look of the lower temp halogens, esp in dusk shots.

Sexy doesn't mean it works well+ [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm trying to get a pack of 5/4C cells which will be packed it and give me 24V at 6A. It'll be similar weight to the 14V 9.6A. Problem is the charger from Hartenberger won't charge it fast enough.

alternate chargers [In reply to] Can't Post

I use a Graupner mc-ultra duo plus II charger that can do up to 30 cells. I believe it can charge 20 cells at 4 amps with a 10A 12V supply.
Don R. uses a Robbe Power Peak Infinity 2 which is very similar. Both require 12V power supplies rather than wall current, so you need a universal supply too.
I have a (US) source for a 130W universal supply if you are interested. One charger plus supply is about 3 pounds.
I use a Sanyo 4/3FAUX cell. 18mm x 67mm, 4500mA and 62g. It's rated for 3C discharge.

Also I forgot to add that the LK1 and LKMegaD2 heads+ [In reply to] Can't Post

are not very wide in beam pattern. I'd say around 70°. Their lightheads also do not have markings for on/off switch and are quite heavy. The borosilicate lens is very fragile to touch and the compounds will rub off at the slightest touch with moisture.

Thanks craig. That's the problem with custom made stuff+ [In reply to] Can't Post

It gets more and more complicated. If you saw the Hartenberger system, you'd understand. It's a complicated system of connectors for the battery but packaged in a very nice teutonic package.

I got a single-bulb set and a double-bulb set. The cabling is not what I expected so I have a little work
to do before my trip. Won't be able to power them for a few days.

If you are using ULCS, you will need the AD-8mm adapter+ [In reply to] Can't Post

Darn euro use 8mm and I had to drive to ULCS HQ in CA to get them, since very few US suppliers stock them.

Actually, the wetplugs of the hartenberger are supposedly rated + [In reply to] Can't Post

to take up to 36V 400W bulbs. Only thing is they are not like the only other wetplug I know, the E/O wetmates, where you can just pull them apart. They are fastened by a screw nut at the ends, a point which is good for me but makes for difficult access in emergencies or even quick changes. I think you can buy them from Hartenberger direct.

Re: Actually, the wetplugs of the hartenberger are supposedly rated + [In reply to] Can't Post

The Hartenberger bulkhead is large but I might switch to it if I like the heads.
The connectors I use are the same as the Sartek's which they call E/O wetmates.
Probably the same as you're thinking. I've liked them, but the last batch I got
had tremendous corrosion problems. I'll rig adapters for now and see how the heads work.

You do know the E/O wetmates are bought from a company in Socal+ [In reply to] Can't Post

called Electro-Oceanic (hence E/O). I've been trying to find that company again but haven't had much luck. Everybody from NiteRider to Sartek uses them... yet they are invisible to the normal search avenues.

Hi, I have bought E/O connectors in the UK previously through a company called Hawker Sidley. This company makes cable glands for the electrical contracting industry. I am not sure if they operate in your part of the world, but may be worth a try.
Rob.
