I, too, was getting the "C:31:23" error message and followed the manual's instructions...all without success. After realizing that Sony was going to charge me $200+ to check into it, I decided that I had really nothing to lose. So, I opened the thing up (a DCR TRV-120, that is). There were about a dozen of the very tiny, black, fine-thread screws used, primarily, to hold on the plastic casing surrounding the unit. I took all of those out and CAREFULLY disassembled the exterior--cassette side, opposite side, battery area and lens portion. Once I had it all apart I simply retried to operate the unit without getting any errors: it worked! Then, I CAREFULLY reassembled the unit and used it just tonight, as a matter of fact. So, if you're at the point I was (nothing to lose!), it may be worth your time and energy to do what I did. But please note: YMMV so do it at your own risk. : I was out getting some water shots in the surf this weekend with my PC5 and after about a half an hour of shooting the camera had the message C:31:23 telling me to eject the tape. There wasnt any moisture that i noticed in the housing... I know the manual says to take the battery off and tape out and let it rest. I did that and it started working for a little bit while i was watching the footage, then it just stopped and showed the message again. It's done this before and hasn't worked after several weeks of not using it, till i sent it out to get fixed. I dont wanna have to wait forever to get it fixed again. Anybody know what i can do to get rid of this problem?? : thanks, : ant
