where to purchase iriver Can't Post

I am looking at which digital voice recorder to purchase. For everyone using the iriver where do you purchase yours and what model do you have? When I do a search I get the full gammut of irivers and I am not sure which one to go with. Plus I have no idea where to look to purchase. Are they available in stores or only online?

Thanks for the help, Cindy

Cindy, as what was mentioned you want the iRiver IFP 700 or 800 series recorders.

But these haven't been made in several years and weren't replaced when they were discontinued.

So your best bet will be trying to find used or refurbished units on Ebay.

Many have been searching for new alternatives for audio capture since the iRiver departure.
Luckily, these alternatives are much better and more refined and more versitile, but they will cost you more.
But these are all very worth while investments.

Good luck.

The least expensive replacement type device to the iRivers that do good quality stuff is the zoom H2. I can get one for about $179 locally and that is about what we were paying for the iRivers when they first came out. The H2 is way better but about the size of a wireless transmitter. There are other units in the same form factor that do even more and are much better but cost about twice as much as the iRiver. There are also some small voice recorders that would be ok for voice only (no music) that would be less expensive but would work in a pinch or a tight budget...just don't try to record music with them. I believe Olympus makes one.

I would try to add at least one H2 zoom to your arsenal because the onboard mics do a fantastic job of recording a string quartet or church organ with only the built in mics.

Thanks everyone for your info. I actually have an Olympus voice recorder which I use for voice-overs. Will research where I could possibly get an H2 as I can't seem to find the irivers.

Don't always look for the cheapest price, as you can get scammed that way.

For prices that are hard to beat, checkout B&H or Full Compass.com.

Personally speaking for all of my audio I go to www.sweetwater.com

Excellent service and great pricing. On par with B&H price (which s hard to beat) wise, but better customer service.

BTW besides the H2, take a look at the Edirol R09HR or the Marantz PMD620. They are more expensive than teh H2, but much more robust and better built. But the H2 will serve you well for recording organs and live instruments as was said. It just doesn't do loud environments well like loud reception audio.

I second the recommendation for Full Compass. THey are actually located right here in my town....well a subarb at least so I can order and pick up right there. When I got my H2 their price was only $179 which is less than Full Compass. If you decide to give them a call let me know and I will give you my sales reps name. She gives me commercial pricing and is very competitive with B&H. It is handy having it here within a 20 minute drive. I could part with alot of money at that place.....don't judge them by their website....give them a call if you are interested in anything. Their site isn't the best but their customer service is outstanding and their prices very competitive.

Yeah Full Compass is great. I hate you for the fact that you have a store such as that near by.
Amazingly here in the D.C. area, we really have nothing of the sort to go to.

For audio it's Guitar Center, and that's it.

For video, we don't have jack squat.

No super store of sort like B&H, Full Compass, EVS, Sweetwater, nothing.

So needless to say, I have to do most of my shopping online at B&H. Which isn't all bad, as I can pay for standard shipping, and in most cases have it the next day, since I am close enough.
I huess it's a blessing that there's no local super media store close by, or I might be homeless, since I would have spent all of my money. Wink
