Canon XL1 Anamorphic lens adapter with 3x lens?

Hi i know nothing about cameras but i want to film in true widescreen so ive decided to buy a Canon XL1 and fit it with a panasonic lens adapter, but ineed to know whether i can screw it onto the end of a 3x wide angle zoom lens. What is a 3x wide angle zoom lens? Will i need it if i have an Anamorphic lens adapter? Thanks
