DAT Audio Recording Process Can't Post

I am looking to buy a Dat Recorder for a film I'm shooting on an XL-1.
I don't understand how audio is linked w/ the video footage when
editing. I know I need to buy a device : Scene 2, take 1 etc. and
that I need to click it to make synching easier. But what kind of DAT
is a good choice...do I need one w/ timecode? Which one...also, anyone
have a mic they recommend? My total audio budget is 1,600$..

Can anyone explain the whole DAT audio process, and how it synchs w/
video in post (this will be a feature 110 m. film)

Syncing in post is easy. If you do have the clap at the beginning, just align the clap on the audio brought in with the video with the same point on the audio brought in from the DAT. Get those two aligned and you should be set.

Do I need any special kind of DAT? Will it go out of synch over time (a long take?).
One recorder I was looking at was the Tascam DAP-1...

I've never used a DAT but would assume it would be more accurate, time-wise, than any cassette. You would need to do some testing but I would think it should stay very close.
