If you're starting from scratch, however, I would suggest using Avid - it's what the professionals in Hollywood use to edit their stuff 95% of the time. So if you plan on growing out of event videography and moving toward Hollywood productions, Avid is the way to go. (Not trying to start a flamimg war here, but...) While it is true that Avid is still a very big player in Hollywood and probably true that 85% (Avid's claim) of what you see on TV/silver screen is produced on Avid, this is changing rapidly in the smaller (less than 2K) formats. A growing portion of the smaller formats are being cut on Final Cut Pro, so much so that you'll even hear the name mentioned on TV by indies and smaller producers in interviews. Avid is a very good system and once again has the advantage of running on either a Mac or a PC. I won't criticize any Avid product but in the context of "starting from scratch" it's just sensible to mention that a large percentage of those "dominant" Avid workstations cost more than my house... After you leave the PC/Mac-based lower-end products, costs quickly move into the 6-figure zone. A friend is hoping to get an Avid Adreneline system sited in his small TV production studio for less than $50K - I hope he can can pull it off. Systems used in feature films can cost 5-10 times as much. From a skills standpoint, there's no denying the resume value of knowing the Avid system, and knowing Avid and FCP is even more attractive. ______________________________________________________________ Currently on a loaded 2.5GHz G5 dualie/5GB/1TB internal RAID/dual 19" monitors.
