While it would probably be a hit with many of the guys in my building, I think the hobos would beat me up and take my camera if I carried one of those around my neighborhood.Laugh

Very innovative. Hmm, she should call it something different...how about....a PURSE. Laugh

Boy...I don't know how someone that coordinates their "photography bag" with a polka-dotted outfit can actually be considered a "pro"...

Re: [DarrenS] You aren't successful without one [In reply to] Can't Post

First of all,

A super talented photographer who can see business sense in publishing an amazing blog and creating something that is super marketable to photographers (and yes, useful too) is nothing short of being a genius... far from idiot!! Give me a break guys!!

Jessica is one of the most successful photographers out there people... she charges like 10k a wedding and people fly her all over the world to shoot their events. She's also one of the most down to earth genuine people I know... and has tons of ideas (one of them being shootsac). She's a natural at what she does and people admire her for that. Because her blog is SOOOOO huge (in the top 100k ratings on technorati) she has a ton of exposure to other photographers, and rightly so because her work is awesome. Wouldn't YOU capititalize on that to the best of your ability? Of course you would!

She's marketing to SUCCESSFUL photographers (from what I can tell), who in case you haven't worked with any, have a very keen sense of style, usually wear designer clothes, etc. This bag will work perfectly for them, plus she saw a need for a small shoulder bag and decided to make on. I don't know anything about photographers equipment, but I would totally dig a small bag that's easy to put equipment in that I can retrieve easily, AND is stylish. Right on!

Don't go bashing someone who has great business sense and is doing a great job following her instincts. At least she's not constantly complaining about how she doesn't have enough business and can't charge what she wants.

Pleeez.

Good for her that she can milk it, but talented? No way! Who was she before she got some good press on Fong's site? What's in her work that makes it stand out above what anyone else with no sense of exposure could achieve, nothing. She makes a great "celebrity photographer" but that's all. If you find that "Big Brother" lifestyle impressive, that's up to you but don't try to kid us that her work is in any way worthwhile.

This must not apply to wedding photographers. Laugh

I guess I'll never cut it as a photog with my Target wardrobe. I have a tuff enough time remembering how to not put my bib overalls on backwards before I shoot a wedding video. Tongue

She's a big pal of Gary Fong and she hangs out with all the big name photogs. I tried to find a video of her working with him on a wedding but can't find the link. If you see it, you will see just how dorky they are at weddings and why I don't think either of them are as good as they say they are.

I wish I could find it Frown It might have been Jessica Strickland - there's another one who thinks red skin and blown out whites is "cool" - and she sells ps actions to do it! Shocked. I think that whole clique need to be locked in the same room as Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. I mean, what sort of pro photog has red-eye snaps on his blog Crazy - http://homepage.mac.com/...533212817/index.html

I don't know who he is, but his name is one that photogs drop when they try to convince you how good they are Wink. As for Jessica Claire, see if anything looks familiar between her shot - http://www.jessicaclaireart.com/#s=3&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&p=5&a=0&at=0 and this older one - http://luminous-landscape.com/images33/Mt-Valley-Shadow-pano.jpg. I bet the original doesn't go for $1500 Mad

Really? You're kidding, right? I don't know anything about what Gary Fong has said about her. But you really think it's that exposure that has allowed her to charge 10k a wedding? Do you think brides and high-end coordinators, etc. read that stuff? Hmmmm....

Re: [scalvidgal] You aren't successful without one [In reply to] Can't Post

It certainly isn't the quality of her work that justifies that price. If she is doing so well at it, why is she having to go into the craft bag business or offer those terrible "fine art" prints. Come on, $1500 for stuff that I've seen better versions of, for a tenth of the money! It is all about being in with that crowd. The trouble is that when you fall out of fashion, you have to have something to fall back on and I don't think she's got it.

Re: [scalvidgal] You aren't successful without one [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah I don't know either. I like the purse, er, camera bag, they're kind of cute. Much nicer than Darren's purse (although, I have that same bag for my cameras and it definitely needs some polkadots). I don't know who she is but I'm happy for her that her business is doing well and she has a following enough that selling a product is working for her.

Although... that sexy model in Rusty's post makes me want the green purse for some reason.

Oh decisions, decisions!!!
