My High Definition short. “Ideals”

This film is about the ideal of fantasies and how it relates to our existence. The high definition is very system intense and often doesn’t run on most computers, so I have encoded low quality High Definition. In 720p to 360p

encoded 3 versions each for Mac and PC.

It is also based on a few events in my life. Shot on Sony Z1U

I am working on becoming a better Director of Photography and filmmaker so any types of comments are welcome

Kyle,

I like this short much more than your last one, although I didn't mind the last one I saw either. The people did a fine job, and many of the shots were interesting.

One thing I would work on is the camera movement. Some shake is fine in most cases, but most "flowing" shots - dolly and so forth - should probably be smoother and more consistent in speed (no velocity changes) as this is a bit distracting. You have some nice locked down shots, and the camera movements in most shots would be very good if they were not jerky. Remember, all shots should have a purpose. Some of the really quick cuts back and forth are really too quick (not very often, but on a few) to really serve any purpose.

Color grading is something to take care of in post mostly, but a couple of shots changed greatly in brightness level on the cuts, presenting an inconsistency. For example, form 1:10 - 1:15 you have several cuts back and forth, and the close-ups seem like a totally different day because they are so much darker. Matching the lighting level, or just making the brightness more consistent can improve the cutover.

Pretty good work there. The concept is nice.
