FX1 backfocusing issues Can't Post

I love the images my camera produces, however, I am noticing that
everything I shoot with it is baclfocused! This is terrible. I put the
crosshairs right on and the camera focuses behind them! is this a common problem?

The only time I've heard of backfocusing issues is at the far end of the lens. Is this where you're experiencing it?

both actually. all the way, up close and zoomed in. I was following a group of three to their seats yesterday, they were spread across the
foreground and teh only items in focus were the trees WAY behind them.
I am going to send it to Sony to be checked out. It has been noticeable the past few weddings.

I am not sure how the camera uses the cross hairs, but many cameras, from what I have read, do not pick a center spot for focusing, but compare side by side pixels and look for a sharp edge of some kind that it can "lock" onto that may not be in the middle of the image. I am guessing you are in auto-focus mode?

I'd think this is an important issue to know about, and for Sony to fix, if it is common. My understanding is that it's important to get focus right on with HDV, and I would guess that many people would rely on the "push auto" feature to get it right for them. I know that, with my aging eyes, I would want to be able to fall back on auto, at least as a check.

I use the spot focus religiously, but overall, this is what the focus assist is for. Whether it's a "common" issue or not, I can't comment. Never hear anything about it except a couple posts in the FX1 world, and never a word in the Z1 forums. And in the case of the FX1, I've only heard it about fully extended zoom, so I'm not sure it's a big deal. As I mentioned earlier, it's never been an issue for me, I use manual focus, focus assist, and spot focusing.

Definitely use manual only. It sucks that they did not make the zoom focus feature available in the recording mode. It is great for setups, but sucks for event video.

Isn't focus assist for use in auto mode? Also have you had a problem with zooming out and losing focus? I used to have that problem big time with my Xl1s, but have noticed it occaisionally with Z1 & FX1.
