Fx-1 owners Can't Post

Hello fellow FX-1 owners. Just wondering if you've noticed the audio from the on-board camera mic, when set to auto, to be a little too quiet?

I've had a couple of recordings with the camera on auto and it seems like it barely picks up audio. Going forward, i'm going to set the audio to manual and I was thinking at about 7 or 8. Anything higher than 8 and I can hear myself taking deep breaths when I hook up a headset to the camera. I want to 'set it and forget it' so I don't want to set the audio too high yet i don't want to set it too low. For anyone out there using the FX1 for Wedding Ceremonies (ambient church sound / sound coming out of the church's speakers) and Receptions (audio coming out of the church's speakers) what setting has worked best for you?

I'm covered for all of the other audio (using a wireless system for vows) so some advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What are you trying to record? and from what distance?. I usually just leave the audio in "auto" as the only thing I use onboard mics for is to lay down an audio track that I can use to synch other audio tracks to.

Re: [Mark Foley] Fx-1 owners [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mark. For my past events, I have only used the audio from the FX1 for bride preps and the audio and i've found that I always had to pump it up in post production. I end up using the audio from all of my other sources (other cams / wireless) for all of the other audio and I would just sync the fx1 to those sources because the FX1 audio was too quiet in most cases.

I wanted to have the FX1 audio to at least provide some audio coming from a church's speaker system (what the audience hears is what the camera will hear). I also hope to have the FX1 audio provide audio from the DJ's speaker sytem from the reception (again what the audience hears from the speakers is what the camera will hear). For the reception, the camera will probably be in large rooms at about 30 or 40+ feet away from the speaker system. The dj's audio system is pumped up so that everyone in the room can hear the introduction / speeches / prayers / etc and I just wanted the fx1 to be able to hear the same as well.

I'm figuring to set the audio to manual and at level 7 for all back up recording of spoken word from speaker systems and back to auto for music playing / regular guest and crowd noise (mingling etc).

Well even though nobody else has chimed in regarding the low level audio of their FX-1 on Auto Mode, at least there's someone else out there who's noticed the exact same thing I have.
