rmw,
Yes, this is a very dynamic camera that we have provided to a wide array of videographers. Everything from folks making movies, to legal depos, to weddings.
What a lot of wedding videographers are doing is making a couple of copies of the wedding. One they are giving to their clients in SD while archiving a copy in HDV. Then in 1 year when the world is all HD you can approach you client and let them know you can give them their wedding in HD! All you have to do is burn your archived HDV tape to whatever media is popular at that time and sell it to your client. This is all profit since the work is already done!
If you have any questions on this camera please call me at 866.827.3489 or email at Jason@TapeWorksTexas.com

Good Luck!

Is it true that in the the JVC HD cam you can only control the iris or shutter not both at the same time? If so when you control the iris is it true that the camera controls the shutter and vice versa?

No, you can have full manual control over all aspects of the cam, but if you put it into automode, it overrides anything you've got manually happening. Outside of a few things, the later versions of this cam are pretty nice. The only thing I absolutely cannot get used to is the focus assist. I hate it. Compared to the Sony, Canon, and although not HDV, the HVX 200, I can't stand the focus assist.

So the iris and shutter have separate knobs. I was told by another user that there was only one knob which was switchable between iris and shutter and he and another said that the cam controlled whatever was not selected on the knob. I didn't think that if iris was selected that the shutter would go to auto and vice versa, because that would be asenine and defeat the purpose, but that is what they told me. I think, like many, they may not truly understand full manual operation.

Iris control is on the lens; shutter speed is a dial on the camera body. Cool

You cannot manually control both shutter speed and iris with the HD1 and HD10 (one or the other, but not both - rather odd).

The HD100 has much more manual control of image acquisition available than the HD1 and HD10, including simultaneous manual control of shutter speed and iris.
