Sony HC1 Wide Lens Options

Hi everyone, I just purchased a new Sony HC1 camcorder last week and want to put a wide angle lens on it. Now, I know Sony makes a lens for it of which sells for $249cdn. I own a pd-150 of which I have 2 lens for..CenturyOptics.65(which I use most of the time on the pd150) & a Canon WD-58.
Would I be able to use the Canon lens on my HC1 using a 37-58mm step up ring? First, is it possible to do, and second, is the Canon lens good enough for HD?
