First define your customer. A lot less bootlegging goes on at the string quartet end of the spectrum. DVD bootlegging is the major obstacle to the growth of video in this market. A lot of people routinely copy $10 DVDs - a lot more are tempted when the price rises to $50. My minimum is $1200 which includes 35 authored dvds. Minimal artwork - no VHS. 2 cameras - 1 operator. A lean operation, fast turnaround. With 60 in attendance my guess is that you have to be able to make money with 20 sales - difficult to do that if you hire someone. Certainly 2 operators and 3 cameras is more reliable and way easier to shoot. Thats a budget decision for the client to make - it typically adds around $600 to the price.
