What is the frame rate of the vx2000? Can't Post

I know that 24p (frames per second) is the "standard" right now but I can not find out for the life of me what this spec is on the Sony vx2000. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

24p is "Standard" in the actual film world. We are in the Video world and VX is 60i (60 interlaced fields per second). You can alter the shutter speed of the camera, but it is NOT the same as 24P.

And actually, 24P is not the video standard at all, but the exception that people are pushing for in their camcorders. 60i is standard for video camcorders because video is normally played on TVs, which display interlaced footage. Until digital TVs take over the market, anyway.

hey guys thanks for the quick response! I am an audio guy just getting into teaching video here at our school. So what IS the frame rate of the vx2000? I am trying to decide if we should get a Panasonic V100 (or something like that).

What is the main quality spec that I should be looking for as far as actual video quality?

And again I really do want to know the frame rate for the Sony vx2000 b ecause it is killing me that I can't find this spec anywhere!

Thanks!

The VX's frame rate is 60 frames per second, but the frames are interlaced, meaning they are half frames. Film and 24p cameras are progressive, meaning each frame is fully captured. This stuff is pretty confusing when you first hear about it. It'd be best to search the internet or this site if you want know more.

Frame rate really has nothing to do with the quality of the camera. Look for number of CCD's (3 is better than 1) and size of the CCD's (bigger is better). If you think you might shoot in low light, look for the lux number (lower is better, and the VX is about as good as it gets). You might take into consideration the zoom (Sony is 12X I believe while Canon gl2 has 20x and I think the Panny DVX-100 is like 12X as well. Again bigger is better). If you are looking at the VX, Canon GL2 and Panasonic DVX-100 are probably the closest similar rivals.

One thing that occurred to me is that if you are a teacher, maybe the DVX-100 would be a better choice because it shoots at 24p and therefore it would help the students bridge the gap between film and video.

60i means 60 interlaced frames per second. You put them together and you get 30 actual frames per second, which is standard broadcast rate (what comes from the TV companies on your analog TV). That is why it was designed that way.

Quality is a very personal opinion. Some like interlaced footage because it looks "smoother" on an interlaced TV. Others like 24P (progressive, 24 frames/second) because they feel it gives them more of a "film rate" look since 35mm film is shot at 24 frames per second instead of 30 frames per second.

What I would look for is a 3CCD camcorder so you have the ability to get good colors (although a few 1ccd/more expensive cameras do well also) that has the main features you are looking for. Also, look at reliability. Sony and Panasonic seem to have a pretty good reliability factor, but research is important.
