: i have a cannon digital video camcorder (mv500i) and it has a DV terminal. I want to transfer the videos from it on my computer to be able to edit them, but i don't know which port do i connect it to on my computer, and what cable do i use? You need to have a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port on your computer, and a Firewire cable to connect the two. You may have this port on the back panel, near the USB ports, or on your sound card, or at the front of your computer case. If your computer doesn't have a Firewire port, you can add one with an inexpensive IEEE 1394 capture card, for $20-50. You should also invest in a second, large, 7200 rpm hard drive. DV video consumes about 18GB per hour of disk space. Get a 60GB or larger drive. ...and next time, please post "how to" questions like this in the Technical Q&A forum, not the Teachers forum. Thanks!
