Re: LANC Sync Roll Question Can't Post

Thanks to all for your great suggestions.
Using a flash makes good sense... Another response recommended
queing up all sources (Hi8 camcorders with RC time code in my case) and then unpausing simultaneously with a remote.
I did phone Videonics support today and the tech confirmed that
Video Toolkit will not play back more than one source continuously, and he also stated that AB-1 Edit Suite would only
roll one source at a time - he had to manually handle his two
other sources. I guess that would indicate more than one possible definition for the term A/B/C roll...
...AB-1 and the Toolkit will not work together and there are no
plans for any further development as such on either of the two
products according to the tech.
As the Toolkit will allow one to use a Joystick controller connected to a computer's game port to control the transport
of connected devices, I asked whether there were any plans for
making a Jog/Shuttle controller for this. The tech said no and
that a number of others had requested the same convenience... So
if anyone is so inclined there might be a market for an inexpensive Jog/Shuttle that could work with the Toolkit.
In searching the web I found some rather interesting products
out there, some of which appear to be British and some others
German. I'm not sure whether they are all still supported (looks
like at least one of the companies, GSE, may no longer be in business).
Here's a url for anyone who has similar interests:
http://home.sol.no/~asjaavaa/editors/editors.html
It would be nice to simply punch in the time code addresses
involved and then push a button on a controller (or keyboard)
and have the machine roll the sources from those points, then
execute cuts or effects on an MX-1 or other mixer.
I know I am pushing the limits of consumer gear but also know
that there must be a way to do some of these things.
John, I eagerly await the info on your "Continuous A/B" system.
Thanks again,
Albert

Re: LANC Sync Roll Question Can't Post

: All three, Doug, John, & Bob couldn't be more correct. At least that's my opinion. Use a flash to sync up the cameras and then use my "Continious A/B Roll" system to do a nonstop edit, no stopping of the vcrs after the edit starts. No hunting, pausing, F/F or R/Winding. You got a one hour tape to edit? The Continious A/B Roll syst. takes one hour to do it, (as long as your cameras didn't stop during the shoot) Also, there's room for over 100 transitions, all hands off.
: P/S I received your e/mail today and will send more info.
: John Stockwell
: I need to exactly synchronize the simultaneous playback of two and perhaps
: three LANC camcorders using RC time code.
: I have shot band footage and other events with two cameras and have been
: able to manually sync up the playback exactly by hand, but need and want to
: be able to do this repeatedly from the same point or other points.
: I also want the ability to have full transport control of two or
: three decks simultaneously from one set of controls. That is, so that as I
: play or pause or fast-forward, etc., all decks would move precisely in
: unison, thus allowing me to accurately plan my cuts or effects between
: sources.
: It seems that an edit controller should be able to accomplish this.
: Is this what is referred to as "Sync Rolling"?
: I have the Videonics Toolkit 3.0.05 but have not found a way to do it.
: Am I missing something?
: I'm cloudy on whether or not the AB-1 Edit Suite will do it.
: Also unsure on Future Video V-Station, but I think it only handles two
: players...
: Can anyone recommend a solution?
: I'm not looking for a NLE solution - I want to control these devices for
: linear editing on to Hi8, SVHS and perhaps DV and/or 3/4".
: Thanks for your help!
