A "nothing special" wedding highlight Can't Post

Love this family, shot the bride's cousin's wedding last year when we first started our business. By "nothing special" I mean that it was, say, a low key wedding... no toasts, no dancing, did all of the decorating themselves. In fact, I think the only professionals they hired were us and the photographer. The rest they all did on their own.

I've never had a wedding where there were no toasts and no dancing.
Might be nice for a change up.

So what do they do then? Have the ceremony and then everyone
meets up later for dinner together and then they just head out?

LOOKS AWESOME!!!! I especially love the coloring on the final project, I am assuming magic bullet, but if not I would love to know how you came up with it. the blown out highlights and crushed blacks looks very cool in this video. The only criticism I have is the shaky shots in the beginning of the couple. It's not bad, but that is just one of those things that bugs me. You can easily solve that by either putting the camera on a set of sticks, or to be more creative do a slow zoom or tilt of the camera. it will really help to take the shake out of the image. Overall a GREAT VIDEO!!!

Sort of. They did everything at the church, so everyone just goes into the church gym for what amounts to a "cake and punch" reception, but they did have finger food too. They mingle, do the cake cutting, bouquet & garter toss, and then leave. I think the reception lasted only about an hour (but they were also trying to hurry to leave before it got dark because they wanted the balloon release to show up in pics & video).

Thanks! Yep, it's magic bullet. I love the look I can get with it, but am also trying to keep from using it too much. I agree about some shaky shots... we don't like to mess with tripods except during the ceremony, but a couple of monopods are on our "need to buy" list. Smile We've always shot preps handheld, but the desire to shoot more tight detail shots has changed that thought process some.

Pretty nice, Pen!

A few things I'm curious about:

What gear do you shoot with?

I noticed there wasn't as much slow-mo as I've usually seen in
highlights. Don't care for slow mo?

Have you always been HD? Or did you come from SD?

Thanks. We just switched to the HMC150, but this piece was shot on XL2s in 16:9 mode. (which also answers the HD/SD question)

Nothing against slow-mo, trying to break a habit of using it too much really. It depends on the style of the couple & the song too.

Some of those rack focus shots seemed to have such shallow depth of field I thought maybe you were shooting with a digital SLR or 35mm adapter.
