OK, first A turtle was walking down an alley in New York when he was mugged by a gang of snails. A police detective came to investigate and asked the turtle if he could explain what happened. The turtle looked confused and said I don’t know, it all happened so fast.”

Now I want to talk about Skype Video because it’s a tool I think producers should understand and use. Oprah has been using Skype video on her show for over a year now. She interviews people all over the world with it.
I’ve used it to do a remote interview with the editor of Video Librarian Magazine. He was in Washington State; I was here in Rhode Island. I didn’t want to use web cams so so I hired a cameraman in Washington who filmed that side of the interview and there was a separate camera on me. I interviewed the editor in Washington through Skype but we filmed it in DV. So at the end they sent me their DV tape and I could cut the two tapes together. It looked like a remote live interview on any network news show. There was no cost for the Skype connection.
You can see this interview in our DVD companion to the book “Secrets of Producing and Selling Successful Videos”. SHOW BOOK AND DVD. They’re available right here on VideoUniversity.com You don’t have to go far at all.
There are many ways to use Skype Video. Some use it to teach remote classrooms on the cheap. There’s even a Psychiatrist in a remote area who uses Skype video to see patients. There are programs like SkypeCap which let you record the video from Skype sessions.
How about a Do-It-Yourself Home Security System? You just need two separate Skype accounts, a computer at home with a webcam and Internet access. Using that home account, setup Skype to auto-answer calls and switch on the webcam. Then you can check in from outside with a second Skype account. When you call the home account, the webcam video will come up. Not bad!
There’s even a Translator for Skype that can read text in 43 languages. It makes subtitles like in a foreign film.
With a program called CrazyTalk for Skype you can Create a Lip Syncing Avatar and have him lip-sync whatever you say. You can create your avatar from any digital photo. Take a look:
Skype is now available in standard video at 30 frames a second. See Skype Dot com for more information.
So if you don’t yet have Skype, get it and try it out with a web cam and see what you can do with it. Experiment. This could help you business in surprising ways. It’s just another tool, and it’s free.
And now here’s a visual treat from Brian MacKenzie travelling through New York City traffic wearing a glidecam. Oh yes and I almost forgot to say he’s on a unicycle!
Thank you Brian, That’s a great video.
Want wireless high-definition streaming? There’s Gefen Wireless for HDMI. This uses ultrawide technology to send 1080p HD video from an HDMI device to a HighDef display. The Gefen Wireless HDMI also doubles as a High Definition AV switcher. The Manufacturers Suggested Retail price is $999. And that’s a lot cheaper than a 1000 dollars!
A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: “That’s the ugliest baby that I’ve ever seen. Ugh!” The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: “The driver just insulted me!”
The man says: “You go right up there and tell him off – go ahead, I’ll hold your monkey for you.” RIM SHOT
